On January 3rd 2020, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and .com registry Verisign Inc. announced they have reached a proposed agreement to amend the .COM Registry Agreement (RA). These agreements are set to fulfill commitments made in 2016 when the .COM RA was last amended.
A notable aspect of these new terms is that ICANN and Verisign may permit an increase for .COM registry services up to a maximum of 7 percent in each of the final four years of each six-year period. Verisign does not set retail prices for .com domains, but the objective is to limit maximum wholesale pricing for .coms.
The new terms are now open for public comment through February 14, 2020.
