Matt Binder at Mashable is reporting that Google is in the process of selling their domain registrar to SquareSpace. The move comes as a surprise to much of the industry after the tech company burst onto the scene in 2014, acquiring a great deal of the market share even as the service remained in beta until 2022. SquareSpace is reportedly purchasing the service for $180 million US and is set to take over their 10.1 million domain names, making them one of the largest registrars in the world, behind only GoDaddy, Namecheap and TUCOWS.
