Putting yourself online can seem like a daunting task. But long gone are the days when you needed to hire a coder to program or a designer to make over your website. Now there are so many options, even the choices can be overwhelming. But to cut through the clutter, the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) has some ideas to think about as you get started .
How complex do you envision your website?
Is it simply an informational site? Will it require expansion in the future for ecommerce? Logins? Management of users? If you see your site going beyond a placeholder or a simple site with a handful of information pages, then you may want to get started on a content management system (CMS) rather than a site builder like Wix or Squarespace.
Is it a short or long-term term project?
This is important to consider when you select a registration or hosting plan. If this is for a one-time event less than a year away, you may not want to sign up for a yearly plan, for example.
CIRA has more questions that those considering a website need to think about.
