Facebook bought Meta domain from a Finnish legislator

When Facebook rebranded to Meta, it had to begin acquiring all of the “meta” domain names for its new internet presence. However, when the time came to acquire the Finnish domain “meta.fi”, they found an unusual owner.

Politico Europe is reporting that the meta.fi domain was originally purchased in 2013 by Finland’s Minister of Transport and Communications Timo Harakka.

The details of Meta’s purchase of the domain were not disclosed.
