The domain name once associated with the controversial Motherisk program at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) has been obtained by a third party operator of a cannabis blog.
The domain motherisk.org was mistakenly permitted to expire by SickKids, an oversight that they have acknowledged in an email statement to CBC Toronto. The organization that obtained it, CBD Clinicals, is a US firm who saw only that it had high metrics and claims that they were unaware of the Motherisk program in Canada when they obtained it. SickKids has taken steps to inform their patients that the content of the website is not theirs and for any expecting parents to contact them directly or their healthcare provider.
The Motherisk program itself was a clinical research program operated at SickKids to provide safety information regarding exposure to chemicals, diseases or drugs during pregnancy or lactation. The laboratory operated until 2015, when an independent review by the Ontario Attorney General’s office concluded that “hair-strand drug and alcohol testing used by the Motherisk Drug Testing Laboratory between 2005 and 2015 was inadequate and unreliable for use in child protection and criminal proceedings and that the Laboratory did not meet internationally recognized forensic standards.”
