It was Waterloo’s claim to fame in the digital world. In January of 1999, the company known formerly as Research In Motion (RIM) introduced the first device to carry the BlackBerry Name. That device was the 850 email pager. As BlackBerry employees past and present remember the tumultuous times of the device, from its heyday in the early 2000s to its gradual decline in the smartphone world dominated by Android and Apple, for all involved, the memories still stir a great deal of emotion.
